Evan Ren, violin

Hailing from Ottawa, Evan Ren started playing violin at the age of 8. He started lessons with Serhii Vyhovsky in 2010. From 2010 to 2012, Evan was a member of the Stellae Boreales Ensemble of Ottawa Suzuki Strings. Stellae Boreales is an advanced young string ensemble which has toured many countries and cities, performing at various locations, including a master class with Rebecca Henry at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Between 2009 to 2014, Evan has participated in Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival string competitions and won scholarships and trophies every year. In 2011, Evan has won the Sziladi Family Trophy. In 2012, Evan won the Sziladi Family Trophy and Trophee Mathieu Forment-Savoie Thophy. Evan was then invited to audition for the Ottawa International Chamber Festival Rising Stars Gala Concert.

Evan has also won Honourable mention in the Ontario Music Festival for grade 7 violing, and first place for grade 9 violin. Evan was also rewarded with a Gold medal for grade 7, 8 and 9 Violin RCM.

In 2013, Evan began performing frequently at the YSPF concerts. In the summer of 2014, Evan participated in the Ottawa Suzuki Strings Chamber music camp.

Evan is currently participating in the Canadian Music Competition for violin, age 17 category.

Evan is playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto No. 1 in E minor, OP. 64
